There is an old wedding saying which goes, ‘Something old, something new. Something borrowed, something blue. And a silver sixpence in her shoe’. Each item in the lines stands for a lucky charm for a new bride-to-be. It is said and believed that if a bride carries all the five things on her wedding day then that will bless her marriage and she will enjoy marital bliss!

Something Old New Borrowed“Something old” signifies continuity with the bride’s family and the past. “Something new” means optimism and anticipation for the bride’s new life ahead. “Something borrowed” is usually an item given by a happily married friend or family member so that her good fortune in marriage can rub over the new bride’s married life. ‘Something blue’ denotes love, modesty and fidelity. Whereas sixpence stands for wealth and financial security.

In most cases a piece of jewellery is something new, old or borrowed. For instance some brides borrow vintage jewellery from their grandmothers to wear it on their wedding day. You can also borrow your mother’s pearl necklace or your aunt’s diamond studs that you always had your eyes on. No one says no to a bride-to-be so it is the best time to borrow your favourite jewellery without any fear! This takes care of wearing something old and borrowed on the wedding day!

Parents, often gift their daughters a piece of diamond jewellery such as a pair of earrings or a beautiful pendant necklace to wear something new on their wedding day.

The first step towards finding the perfect wedding dress is to know your body shape. You can use the experience of celebrities and their wedding dresses to know the latest trends and also to relate with their body types to determine yours!

Perfect Wedding DressIf you have small, petite body frame like Nicole Richie then you can take a cue from her beautiful wedding dress. Her ball-gown skirt wedding dress had more than 100 yards of silk organza, tulle petals and was hand-made. It was inspired by Grace Kelly’s beautiful vintage dress. With this body frame, it is advisable to keep the wedding accessories to a minimum. Nicole Richie just wore simple diamond earrings on her wedding day that didn’t over-power her beautiful dress.

One Diamond Ring

Just imagine a diamond ring fully made from a single faceted, large rough diamond. No other metal of any kind like white gold, platinum or silver used on the ring. Just purely diamond! Sounds impossible?

Well, Shawish, a Swiss jewellery house made this impossible feat possible. They have managed to achieve something that no one else has ever thought or done. This amazing diamond ring rightly named as the ‘First Diamond Ring is made from one single diamond and has no metal on it. It weighs around 150 carats and the estimated price of this ring is £43 million.

The makers confessed that they had to invest a lot of time, money and patience in creating the ring using a single piece of diamond. They had to be very careful while cutting and shaping the diamond as altering the diamond structure could have lead to colour modification. As a diamond’s worth is determined by its colour, clarity and flawlessness, they didn’t want to compromise on this aspect.

It is quite evident that whoever came up with this idea of a complete diamond ring is surely possessed by diamonds. The makers took the phrase, “the bigger, the...

Not all wedding proposals are dreamlike and perfect. Going down on one knee and proposing to the love of your life can make anyone anxious and give you the jitters. Even the extensive planning and preparation can go wrong at the last minute.

Lost Diamond

If you don’t believe this then ask Matt Cawley, a 31-year-old restaurateur from Massachusetts in America. All he wanted was to surprise his girlfriend, Stacey Scanlon, a 30-year-old school teacher with a memorable wedding proposal. But things went horribly wrong for him right when he was about to ask, “Will you marry me?”

Cawley selected a family heirloom diamond engagement ring, worth approximately £ 6000 for his lover. He tied the diamond engagement ring to an oversize sand dollar (a type of marine animal species that looks like a white round coin) and placed it on the pier at a beach. In pretext of taking a stroll on the beach, Cawley took her to the pier and directed her attention to the sand dollar. But as soon she went to pick it up, the ring got detached and fell down in the rocks.

“It was the worst feeling in the world,” Cawley added. “I won’t put it up there with a death, but I was in shock.”

The beautiful engagement ring was paved with beautiful sparkling diamonds with one large diamond at the centre. It was not only beautiful but was also a part of the family heirloom. Family, friends and even...
