And a recently conducted poll proved that it’s not just the fashion police who love her but even the public adore her fashion sense. There is an old wedding saying which goes, ‘Something old, something new. Something borrowed, something blue. And a silver sixpence in her shoe’. Each item in the lines stands for a lucky charm for a new bride-to-be. It is said and believed that if a bride carries all the five things on her wedding day then that will bless her marriage and she will enjoy marital bliss!

“Something old” signifies continuity with the bride’s family and the past. “Something new” means optimism and anticipation for the bride’s new life ahead. “Something borrowed” is usually an item given by a happily married friend or family member so that her good fortune in marriage can rub over the new bride’s married life. ‘Something blue’ denotes love, modesty and fidelity. In the recent times, two women who have managed to grab the maximum space in media are Elizabeth Taylor and Kim Kardashian. Both incredibly beautiful and famous women have been in news for quite some time but for very different reasons.

Earlier in 2011, in March the world lost a legendary actress in Elizabeth Taylor due to heart failure. But that didn’t stop her from being in news. After her, it was her jewellery collection that remained in news for most of the year. The 300 pieces jewellery worth £18.8 million were auctioned at Christie’s in New York in the end of 2011.

The next woman who was in news the most was Kim Kardashian. Every news channel and numerous publications covered the juicy details of her engagement, marriage and subsequent divorce with Kris Humphries. The world watched in awe her huge engagement ring and scrutinized her wedding dress and all the preparations. But as the year 2011 came to an end, these two women came back in news again and this time together!

Elizabeth Taylor’s jewellery was auctioned at Christie’s and Kim Kardashian bought three jade bracelets that belonged to Taylor and were created by Los Angeles jewellery designer Lorraine Schwartz. She bought them for a cool £ 42,000, which is way above the estimated price £ 5,000. Britney Spears got engaged for the third time! Yes, after two failed marriages (one that lasted just 55 hours!) and two children, Britney Spears has found love again!

She was spotted flaunting her ‘new’ engaged status and her ‘new’ engagement ring at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas just recently. The lucky man that she got engaged to is Jason Trawick, her former agent whom she was dating from quite some time!

Jason with the help of celebrity jewellery designer, Neil Lane designed a beautiful diamond ring for Britney. Jason was very clear that he didn’t wanted a huge over-the-top ring for her, but instead something that represents that ‘she is his princess’! The ring has a tiara style setting as he wanted a crown like ring for Britney. The four carat ring has around 90 diamond set on the platinum band with one sparkling diamond sitting magnificently at the centre. The estimated price of the ring is £58,000!

Media is abuzz about the fact that the size of the rock falls short as compared other celebrity engagement rings such as Beyonce’s 18 carat ring and Kim Kardashian’s huge 20.5 carat diamond engagement ring. Well, this piece of news will surely stun all the critics!

The New York fashion brand DKNY teamed up with jewellery designer Martin Katz to craft a £ 640 thousand pounds ‘Golden Delicious’ perfume bottle! The price is justified as the bottle is embedded with several precious jewel stones. This one-of-a-kind bottle is a part of DKNY’s Golden Delicious perfume series.

It is made from yellow and white gold. The gold body of the bottle has 183 yellow sapphires, 2,700 white diamonds and a 1.65 carat turquoise Paraiba tourmaline stone planted on it. The designer, Martin Katz implanted each stone by his own hand on the bottles. The precious stones are strategically placed to denote the New York Skyline! No wonder the whole process took 1,500 hours to complete.
